Give Yourself A Hair Facial
It's the only secret you need to have a good hair day every day.
Is there anything more relaxing than a Sunday evening pampering session, complete with a DIY facial and mini mani-pedi? Sigh. The perfect combination of self-care and self-love, it’s the best way to end one week, and start another, ready to face the world. Or, at the very least, look your barista in the eye. But while we think nothing of treating our skin, how much time have you spent on your hair recently? Yes, just as we thought. Here’s our quick guide to shinier, softer, healthier hair.

Fun* fact – if you have shoulder-length hair, your ends could be more than two years old. As a result, you really need to show them some love. Do this by using a pre-shampoo hydrating treatment, such as Kérastase Resistance Soin Premier Thérapiste Pre-Shampoo – this particular formula can be applied directly onto dry hair and acts as a gauze to protect the fibres before you wash with a shampoo. Smooth the treatment through the mid-lengths, clip your hair up, then wander around for at least 10 minutes before shampooing out in the shower.

Next, it’s time to cleanse and exfoliate. Yes, we said exfoliate. Most of us wouldn’t think twice of double-cleansing and exfoliating our skin, to slough away those dead skin cells, but your hair and scalp also needs similar treatment. Start with a clarifying shampoo, that rinses away pollution, product build-up and excess oil, before exfoliating the scalp with a product like Scalp & Body Scrub by Ouai. Gently massage the sugar crystals and hydrating coconut oil into your roots to help buff away dead skin and boost circulation.

Now, you want to add a hair mask. If you’ve got thick or curly hair, coating the strands with hydrating oils like olive oil can bring your lengths back to life. Fine hair can get benefit from moisture-infusing hyaluronic acid. And for colour-treated hair, a tinted mask hydrates and boosts your colour. For all types of hair, we love Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3 – let it soak into strands for several minutes while you soap and exfoliate your body, to give the formula plenty of time to work its magic.

Finally, once you’ve stepped out of the shower, gently towel-dry hair and finish with a mist, like Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil. Infused with nourishing ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil and vitamin E, it’ll condition, protect hair from UV rays and make strands look soft, shiny and smooth.
